Volunteers along with the local people of Copainalá carry out some cleaning and basic activities of renewal under the supervision of a professional restorer. Various artistic methods such as drama, music, painting, and media technology will be used. The target group is the local population but the volunteers and regional agencies, national and international which will create a sense of belonging and develop the tourism potential of the region. Cultural activities will be organized together with local people to
discover local traditions and other cultural sites and natural heritage. The volunteers would be able to create awareness and positive impact through their participation. This will be a lifetime experience to the volunteers who would get to help the community and will also develop good bonding with co participating volunteers coming from different international cultures. During their free time volunteers will get to have all the fun by visiting nearby places of tourist interest. Join hands with GWC and help poor villagers live life with a smile and dignity. Little gestures of help and care offered by you will brighten up the lives, culture and heritage of these poor people.
Typically you are expected to work for about 4 to 6 hours a day; however if you wish to put in more working hours in the interest of needy you are welcome. A typical working day begins after breakfast and it is highly recommended that you work with other project closely to adjust better and maximize the impact. During working hours, you will have break time for lunch and a cup of tea.
Day 1: Arrival at Tuxtla Gutierrez International Airport, from where you will take a taxi or bus for Copainala, which is the meeting point (One hour distance from Tuxtla Gutierrez).
Day 2: You will be welcomed at GWC’s volunteer apartment, where you will be given a short introduction of GWC. You will also be introduced about the local people, local conditions, local language & culture, host family, safety & climate and social or political issues.
Day 3: You will leave for the project site where you will meet the local staff members and you will be introduced to the project and environment.
Day 4 – 8: Heritage & Animal Support Project Starts (Refer project Highlights for details)
Day 9: This is the time to relax and refresh by taking a tour to village site, interact with locales, staff and your fellow volunteers. You will visit and explore various sightseeing spots and will get to have lots of fun. After dinner in the evening, you can have more fun when you join cultural program performed by local community people which is always a visual treat.
Day 10-12: Project work (Heritage & Animal Support) continues.
Day 13: Visit and explore the beautiful historic places of the community along with the group of participants who are almost of your own age. This will also help you to share your new experience with each other.
Day 14: Completion of project, final experience synthesis and Farewell program will be conducted at the end. This is a wonderful platform to the participants to recall and share important experiences and lessons learnt. During this, a short program of certificate distribution will also take place. Once the program is over, the group of volunteers (youth participants) will leave for departure for their respective destinations.
GWS partner organizations at Mexico will arrange and manage your accommodation, food and supervision while you work in at the project. You will stay either with a host family,
in a project hostel, in a dormitory or in a volunteer house and construction center/kind of dormitory. You will be served three meals per day. The breakfast and dinners have to be cooked by volunteers themselves however lunches will be organized in cafe. You are also welcome to get food from local restaurants or anywhere at your own expense. Even
though everyday items are available in the host country at cheaper prices it is however requested to carry all the everyday items with you while travelling.
