Few countries in the world, but Srilanka can offer such a remarkable combination of stunning landscapes, sugar crystal beaches, nostalgic cultural heritage where beauty meets life!! Sri Lanka is a multi ethnic and multi religious country since pre – historic times. Majority of the ethnic group is Sinhalese who practice Buddhism. The second group is the Tamils who are adherent to Hinduism. A country with lot of colorful vibrant festivals, Cuisines that are spicy, and People who are friendly will charm any visitor over.
The island offers excellent adventure sport facilities, such as Windsurfing, Diving & Snorkeling, and Rafting & Canoeing with modern equipments. There is an array of attraction that the country offers to its visitors which includes World Heritage Places like The sacred city of Anuradhapura, The ancient City of Polonnaruwa, The Ancient City of Sigriya, The sacred city of Candy, The Golden temple of Dambulla, The Old town of Galle; Museums like National Museum, The Dutch Period Museum, The national Maritime Museum Galle and The Gems Museum, Ratnapura; National Parks & Wildlife that includes wildlife like elephants, leopards, sloth bears, deers, monkeys, wild buffalos, wild boars, porcupines, civet cats, jackals, mongooses, several varieties of lizards, squirrels, reptiles and amphibians. The famous parks are Yala (Ruhuna) National Park, Gal Oya National Park, Uda Walawe National Park, Wasgamuwa National Park and Horton Plains National Park. The country has some mesmerizing waterfalls which includes Bambarakanda Ella, Diyaluma Waterfall, Duhinda Falls, Galagediyana Ella, Ravana Ella, Bopath Ella, Saint Claire Waterfall, Devon’s Waterfall and Alupolla Ella. The tear drop like island is nothing but a cover of green landscapes all around, breathtakingly beautiful.
Despite being one of the moderate Asian states it is struggling to cope with issues relating to general health, economic reforms, literacy, ethnic minority clashes and related issues and environmental concerns. The people affected look up to volunteers like you who are determined to make a difference in their life for better. As a GWC volunteer you would work relentlessly towards bettering community life. This will be a very enriching experience emotionally, you will not only get to interact with the local community but will also be a learning experience for you to interact with other international volunteers coming from different ethnic background and culture. You can make a request before the workcamp project starts, GWC will contact to our In-country coordinator to find a solution and try to make adjustments in order to give you a space in that very project, however, GWC will charge extra fees for this kind of arrangement
